Sharing and Caring Event

Sydney North West chapter under the banner of “Caring & Sharing”  project has again helped under privileged 270 school children in 7 primary and  aganvari schools (pre-schools) in Zira villages (Punjab), where warm clothes,  uniforms, shoes, socks, daris, chairs etc. for schools were provided on 12  February 2013 as per their need. The villages covered are Kamal Garh, Jhanda  Bagga, Pandori Jattan and Wara Pohwindia. This is a third year in a row, where  GOPIO Sydney North West chapter has provided such help to under privileged  school children of Punjab. Every year Harmohan Singh Walia and Prof. Balkar  Singh Kang of GOPIO Sydney North West chapter especially travel from Sydney to  Punjab (India) to implement Caring & Sharing project.

Funds  were raised in November 2012 at Sapphire Function Centre, Blacktown under the  leadership of Balkar Singh Kang, Ravinder Singh, Aman Singh, Baljit Pelia,  Paramjit Multani, Rajvinder Singh, Neeru Singh, and Harmohan Singh Walia for  Caring and Sharing project.

The  Government of India’s Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) complimented  the work of GOPIO Sydney North West chapter. Mr Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister  for Overseas Indian Affairs congratulated Harmohan Singh Walia and appreciated  the Caring & Sharing project under taken by the GOPIO Sydney North West  chapter.  In a meeting organised by GOPIO  India at Ethopian Embassy’s Cultural Centre in Delhi’s posh Chanakyapuri  diplomatic enclave, Mr. T.K Manoj Kumar, Joint Secretary of MOIA, welcomed  Australian members and praised GOPIO Sydney North West chapter’s philanthropy  in helping needy students of Punjab villages. He also complimented GOPIO  International’s more than two decades of service to the Diaspora and assured  his Ministry’s full cooperation. He praised the informative interaction with  GOPIO India and Australia members post Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD) 2013 at  Kochi, Kerala in the presence of Amabassador R. Dayakar (IFS), GOPIO  International South Asia Coordinator, Kartik Kumar, Deputy Director from  India’s apex Chamber of Commerce (FICCI), Munish Gupta, Chairman PIO TV &  GOPIO’s International Coordinator to South Africa and K.N. Gupta, GOPIO’s  Director Govt. Liaison – GOPIO International.
